It was in 1931 when the first patent for a rOtring ink pen with tubular nib takes shape. By 1934 the Tiku pen was being exported to 34 different countries. This was becoming, in the design world, thego-to-writing instrument. Of course, rOtring is famous for the multi-colour pen, and this was issued in 1935. A pen with graphite leads and a twist mechanism.
By the 1939 New York World's Fair style on par with function was establish. One's signature style is commonly expressed through a prized possessen, you pen.
By 1953 the company was really growing and the Tiku pen, widely popular, was the stepping stone to issue the Radiograph. This became the defining pen for technology at the time. Rapidograph Inc was established in the United States in 1954.
In 1984 they issued the ArtPen, the long black stick pen with calligraphy nibs. They were a significant success.
Between 1983 and 1993 there was constant expansion. They bought up technical companies as well as Koh-I-NOOR Hardtmuth of Italy. The company acquired the American distribution company Koh-I-Noor. But it was in 1989 with the rOtring 600 that the company entered into what would be upscale writing pens.
In 1998 the company becames part of the Sanford, a Division of Newell Brands.
