OMAS Bologna Burkina
On what is in essence an annual visit to Novelli Pens in Rome, Marco wisely had a line of pens all ready for viewing, and my pen to purchase this year was the OMAS Bologna Burkina, in celluloid.
The Bologna Line by Omas was introduced to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the company. While some of the Bologna line are in resin, I was drawn to the Burkina in celluloid. The pen was first released in 2005 and is no longer in production.
The celluloid and silver pens have a distinctive look and all three of the colours: blue, autumn and burkina are attractive. The Burkina is the most different and one that I wanted to add to my collection.
The pen has the new stylized arched clip that OMAS is using on its various lines as the part of the re-design phrase. The sleek plain silver arch has a modern look, and the clip itself is very sturdy and securely set into the cap. There is a silver band at the end of the cap, a silver nib section and a single silver band that separates the twist section for the piston fill from the body of the pen. Overall the pen has a sleek appearance but it is a good size pen to hold.
The pen measures 5 1/2" in length. With a stub nib this pen is perfect for me. The nib is smooth and does have a bit of flex to it.
The colour and pattern of the pen is very different. The pattern is sometimes referred to as a snake skin look or an African batik design. It is distinctive pattern and one that will be rather unique to the collection of many.
The celluloid pattern of the Burkina has been used by OMAS on a number of limited edition pens, in other models.
