In 2023 this pen company has taken over a never level of market presence. Posts on social media show owners with pen cases of multiple Kaweco pens in a range of colours. Almost like the desire to have the full colour collection of Lamy pens!
The original Kaweco company started in Heidelberg in 1889 producing dip pens. By 1911 they has operations in Berlin, Paris, Zurich, Vienna with further market penetration of agencies in other countries. The Sport model was born. By 1913 rather than importing their gold nibs, the company set up its own production. The company goes public in 1921.
in 1930 it was bought up by Knust, Woringen and Grube a company that had produced the Aurumia brand of pens. The brands were combines and the now famous KA WE CO circular brand was issued and remains on all the pens produced. Production of pens ceased during World War II, starting up in October 1945.
In 1994 the KAWECO name is acquired by H&M Gutberket gmbh and the company relaunches the Sport Series with the 1935 design. The company develops a relationship with the German pen company Diplomat, a relationship that existed until 1999 when the Diplomat company was sold.
