PENS OF NOTE

Corsani Poliedrica Caprivi

Stilograph Corsani, a leading pen store in Rome that has been in operations since 1924, worked with Leonardo Officina Italiana (Leonardo Pen) to create to beautiful fountain pen, the Poliedrica Caprivi. The pen is found on Corsani's website as the Poliedrica Piston "Caprivi" special edition pen.

Corsani Poliedrica Caprivi

Unique Body & Material

The pen uses the innovative shape of the Leonardo Poliedrica pen. It has a polyhedral shape. A three dimensional, multi-faceted geometric form. Leonardo has created other pens using this unique design of a triangular three sided pen with a smooth ergonomic feel. This is not the classic thre sided shape of the OMAS 360. No this is much more, it transforms ever so smoothly from triangular to circular and back to triangular. A beautiful experience for the eye and your hand. Other Leonardo pens use this shape, but this pen is one of the larger models. This design accommodates an internal piston and a large size eight nib.

The pens are created from a stunning Mazzucchelli 1849 cellulose acetate. The pattern is a blend of rich black. brown and tan tones, with areas of transparency along with ey-catching pieces of black & white zebra stripes. That all came together to create the name Caprivi, because of the allure and beauty of the Caprivi area of Namibia, Africa.

The cellulose acetate is a material light in weight giving the pen a light feel. It is smooth and warm in the hand. I enjoy holding this pen, and its light weight has made writing with the pen effortless.

The name, Caprivi, is inspired by an area known as the Caprivi Strip. That is a small silver of land in the northwest area of Namibia, Africa - an area rich in wildlife and containing three national parks. Think wildlife. See the Zebra strips in the pen? They certainly caught my eye.

The pen measures 149 mm in length (body and cap); and 137 mm without the cap. The maximum diameter is 17 mm and the cap has a width of 16.9 mm. It is a larg-sized pen, but it never seems to overtake my hand.  I love the smooth feel of the variety of shapes in my hand.  Triangular at the ends, and circular in the middle.

Filling Mechanism

The pen uses the Leonardo Poliedrica model. That model traditionally has used  a converter/cartridge ink filling system.

But this pen is much larger to accommodate the  well known, excellent, Leonardo internal piston. The top piston nob is made of the same material as the pen, so the entire pen has a smooth consistent look. The piston pulls up and stores about 1.5 ml of ink.

In addition, and a plus for me, it is also fitted with a large No. 8 size nib.

No Clip  -  Leonardo has created a number of pens that are more minimalistic in style. The is one of those styles. There are no rings or a clip on the cap. There is no visual break to the pattern that emerges from the cellulose acetate. There is no tactile difference in the pen from for its entire length. This gives the writer a rich experience in holding and writing with the pen. All you feel is the very smooth warm feel of the cellulose acetate.

The Nib

The Corsani Pen is available  with a steel or 14 kt gold nib option.

My pen is fitted with a steel nib, ground to a Cursive Smooth Italic Broad style. The steel nibs today are excellent options, and i must say, the nib is one of the smoothest writing nibs that I have. This is the first Cursive Smooth Italic nib I have had and I am really enjoying it.  I had the pleasure of being with nib Maestro Salvatore, of Leonardo Pen,  as he went through a very thorough process to take the regular broad nib and and transformed it to a cursive smooth italic style. No edges on that nib to catch the paper!

I am really enjoying the writing experience. I have ordered a different pen to have to the same style of nib.

Check-out Corsani's website you will find the pen and the nib options that range from Extra Fine, Fine, Medium, Broad, CSI Broad, CSI Medium and Architect. Corsani offers the pen in steel or gold versions. Of course, he has a limited number of pens, so this is a case of acting before the limited edition line is sold out.

Hold and wriring with this pen is a real pleasure.

Watching the creation of my nib

I was able to see Salvatore shape my nib into the Cursive Smooth Italic shape.  It writes like a dream!
