Glenn's Pens

Pens of Note

Delta Chatterley Fusion Star, Energy

An elegent semi-transparent took makes this pen a real looker. Delta created the pen for Chatterley Pen as part of their Fusion Star line. I acquired this pen in 2013 when Delta produced 18 pens and I am pleased to have pen #10.

This pen joins other in the Fusion Star line. I find the size of the model a goot fit for my hand. The pen measures about 145 mm in length with a body width of 16 mm.

The pen is fitted with a smooth writing Delta Fusion nib, in size #6 width a stub width. For me, I have found this combination of pen size and nib to be a great writing pen. It was on my 2012 vist to the Delta factory that I had the opportunity to be one of the early writers to use the Fusion Nib. The Fusion nib is a combination of a steel base and a small layer piece of of 18 k gold. The two metals are "fused" together with the theory of when the two metal characteristics are used together the gold conducts warmth to the steel and this enhances the flow of ink. The two pieces are not blended or fused, they sit on each other. Delta worked with the University in Naples on the project to design the nib. I known from my own use, and the comments of others, the result is a very smooth writing nib experience. Comments to the contrary centre on the base nib being steel.

The fountain pen uses the Delta designed, and well recognized ratchet piston. It is considered one of the better piston filling systems. The ink chamber holds a large amount of ink and a small view window allows you to see if the ink chamber has ink.

The trim on the pen is top notch - gold on a sterling silver base. At the top of the pen cap is a smalll circle metal plate with an 8 point star design.

The colour of the pen is interesting. The bars of resin used to create the pen have transparency, it has a similar effect as ice when it is cracked, but showing brown and white accents.

Well done Delta and Chatterley.
